The first thing that strikes you about this BM450 breadmaker from Kenwood is the style. There is no doubt that it is beautiful. But don't mistake this machine for just a pretty face. The functionality and versatility of this breadmaker is outstanding and the end products taste fantastic.

Flexibility

Following on the heels of the BM350, this new model now has 15 preset programs to create a range of breads from standard whole meal loaves through to Artisan, gluten-free and pizza bases. For the more discerning bread maker there are even a further five free programs available so that you can create your own personal settings.

But the flexibility doesn't stop there, this machine even allows you to set meal times so that your bread will be ready just when you need it.

Rapid Function

The rapid function will ensure a full loaf of bread is created in 58 minutes while the keep warm function can also come in pretty handy.

Delay Timer

Even the delay timer exceeds expectations with 15 hours available. And just like the viewing window, we're not sure if you will use it much but if you work really long hours or just like to be unbelievably over prepared, it could be handy!

Fan Assisted Baking

What sets this machine apart from other breadmakers is the fan assisted baking. This is a patented product from Kenwood, that ensures a more evenly cooked loaf. And while it works really well, we are not entirely sure if that is why so many of the loaves cooked in the Kenwood come out with a less than polished finish. It's a strange paradox, Kenwood have put an incredible amount of consideration into how the machine looks but don't seem to have really thought about the finish of the product it makes.

But looks aside, the flavour of the bread is fantastic and the added features mean you really won't care if your bread is less than smooth on top.

Round Bread Tin

Furthermore, the BM450 offers the opportunity to use a round bread tin directly in the machine. This is a fantastic step forward for Kenwood as it gives the baker more options and the ability to move away from the oblong shape that has been mandatory for so long.

Weight

But all this technology and the beautiful exterior makes for a pretty heavy product with the BM450 bread maker weighing in at nearly 9kg. But frankly with a height of 31.5cm, width of 38.5cm and a depth of 23.5cm, it is going to be heavy. But it's not as if you are going to be taking it out and about with you on a regular basis. It is easy enough to slide it along a standard counter to clean underneath it and if you really want to put it in the cupboard (which we think would be a travesty for something this stylish) just take a deep breath beforehand.
