Panasonic SD255 Breadmaker

This used to be the best selling breadmaker in the UK, the Panasonic SD255 breadmaker produces excellent loaves of bread, and looks the part too. It's almost identical to the SD254 model apart from an automatic fruit and nut dispenser and two additional rye bread programs.

SD255 Breadmaker Review

So what additional features does the Panasonic SD255 breadmaker give you over the simpler SD254 model? Well, for the extra tenner or so, you first of all get an automatic fruit and nut dispenser. The SD254 model only has an audio alarm to let you know when to add the extra ingredients, but this model will do it all for you, leaving you to get on with other things.

What? More Preset Programs!

In addition, the Panasonic SD255 features two more preset programs specially designed for baking rye bread, together with a rye kneading blade. If you have no use for these extra features, then you should probably opt for the simpler SD254 model and save yourself a tenner.

Besides the rye baking program featured on the Panasonic SD255, there are 16 others to choose from. The super rapid option produces a white or brown loaf in only 1 hour 55 minutes. The sandwich option bakes softer bread with a thinner crust, ideal for making perfect sandwiches. The SD255 breadmaker also features a versatile dough option to make dough from white, brown or wholemeal flour.

Furthermore, the Panasonic SD255 allows three different loaf sizes to be baked, a 1.2kg, 1kg or 450g loaf is possible. You can also choose your preferred crust colour from light, medium or dark.

Standard features are also included on the Panasonic SD255 breadmaker, like a digital timer so you can delay the bread making process by up to 13 hours. Ideal for automatically starting the breadmaker in the early hours and waking up to fresh bread for breakfast.

A 240ml measuring cup and measuring spoon are also included, together with a selection of over 50 recipes for you to try.

After a long period of disasters, doggedly pursuing the impossible with a German own make breadmaker, I decided that today was the day. First loaf perfect, even when I misprogrammed it. Awesome. Best money I have spent since my Wharfedale digital radio.

This machine is great, I work for an electrical store and saw this product, and decided, I would give it ago. And, Im so glad I did. The loaves that this machine bakes are fantastic. Really simple and concise instructions make it absolutely fool-proof! and of course its great value for money, and even better when I get my staff discount! Honest, Really good machine - highly recommended...cheers Panasonic!

Received one for Christmas as a joint present with my brother and it was so popular that I received another for this year's present! So simple to use and clean and many many different types of bread in the book that comes with it. Also copes well with other recipes from other sources (tips are given in the manual even for these!). Our usual loaf these days takes 5 minutes to prepare and then 3 hours of cooking later we have perfect bread every time. Can't recommend this model (SD255) enough really!

I bought the SD 255 because it has special ryebread settings and a special paddle for them. All the recipes I tried with rye, spelt etc worked just fine. I even found and tried the recipe for sourdough bread in the excellent recipe book (Ciabatta dough) and made the easiest sourdough bread ever. My interest is speciality breads and the SD255 coped well with everything. Even my husband likes it, because it is nice and quiet.

I'm really pleased with this machine, it's easy to use and makes perfect bread every time. So far I've made a white loaf, a spiced raisin loaf, great for breakfast, and a brioche with chocolate chips. What's really useful is the timer delay so you wake up to great fresh bread. You know all the things that have gone into it, and its really tasty.

The machine is easy to use,but you MUST follow the instructions carefully, and the automatic dispenser for fruit, nuts etc is a boon as you don't have to stand over it waiting for the beep to add these like other machines. There is a dough only option which allows you to take out the dough and shape it yourself. It also does cake but I haven't tried this yet.

It is like magic, add the ingredients at night, set the timer, and wake up to the house smelling of lovely fresh bread - amazing!
